Prof. Aderonke Omolara Lawal-Are

Aderonke Omolara Lawal-Are is a Professor in the Department of Marine Sciences, a Carcinologist by profession, an astute Researcher, and a seasoned Administrator. She graduated from University of Lagos with Ph.D. (Fisheries) 2006, M.Sc. (Fisheries) with Distinction in 1997 and B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology in 1990. She is a native of Agbowa-Ikosi, Epe LGA, Lagos State.

She is a teacher, lecturer, and a Researcher of over 25 years. She has once taught in Airforce Girls’ Military School, Jos, Holy Child Girls’ Secondary School, Ikoyi – Lagos and Eko Girls’ Grammar School, Okota – Isolo, Lagos but currently teaching at University of Lagos.

She has produced over 246 B.Sc. Students, 85 M.Sc. Students (full time and part time) and graduated 8 Ph.D. Students – which include three (3) who are lecturers in the Department of Marine Sciences, UNILAG, two (2) in Bayero University Kano (BUK) and two (2) in Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR) Lagos. with several others under her tutelage. She has to her credit over 80 publications in learned and high-ranked journals from collaborations locally, nationally, and internationally.

Due to her administrative acumen and academic tenacity in the University of Lagos, where she works, She is currently the Director, Center for General Studies (office of the Vice Chancellor), a Member, 2020 NUGA Accommodation and Welfare/Corps committee, Hall Mistress for Lady Kofoworola Ademola Hostel, Chairman, Department of Marine Sciences at School of Postgraduate Studies, Member, University Counseling Committee and was once the Sub-Dean, Faculty of Science to mention a few.

She was an External Examiner for Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, External Assessor to Lagos State University (LASU), External Examiner (Postgraduate Thesis) to Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and External Examiner (Postgraduate Thesis) to Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

She is currently Chairman, Fisheries Society Of Nigeria – FISON Lagos State Chapter. She is married and blessed with two (2) children.
